Rushing Birds —
Curiousity always feels like flying.
Rush, fly, go! —
Life tends to speed up everyday. A blur of past memories and future plans colorising the present.
Trying to capture this idea, I fell for the dynamic poses of birds mid-flight. Integrating textures and brushes pushed the piece into a fresh new world that was fun to explore.
Also, birds seem to be in an everyday rush and are pretty quirky to draw.
Concept & Art Direction
When birds meet pottery —
When designing the body shapes and hats, I mainly looked at pottery and ceramic sculptures. The geometric shapes I came across played nicely with the style I was after and it added to the quirky design of each birds.
As a final layer I decided to go all in on a soft brush approach mimicking the illusion of blur and speed.
The quirky shapes of pottery formed the inspiration for designing the hats.
